Playing the role of lobbyist, Jessica Chastain is at her best in the movie Miss Sloane. Playing the character at her full, she is the one who turns an ordinary meeting into some verbal slaughterhouse. The movie Miss Sloane is a political thriller movie written by Jonathan Perera and directed by John Madden. The main story of the movie is about Elizabeth Sloane who is a lobbyist and one of the best in her field. She is the cutthroat lady and is the one to wathch. The movie opens with Elizabeth being called by the Senator Ronald Sperling, played by John Lithgow at the congressional hearing to answer some questions related to some possible violations that she might have done of the rules of Senate ethics while she was in Washington D.C.
The movie then moves to flash where the story of how everything started begins. Three months ago, the firm in which Sloane was working was approached by Bob Sanford, played by Chuck Shamata, who is a representative of a gun manufacturing company. Bob wanted her firm to deal with a case as an opposition regarding checking backgrounds on the gun purchases. Their meeting does not go as per Bob’s plan. His rivals take benefit of this situation and approaches Elizabeth to lead their case. Taking this opportunity Elizabeth decides to take this case and leaves with most of the staff members. She is on the top of her game to win this case.
Throughout the movie, the character of Elizabeth Sloane overshadows everything else. Nobody knows what the political convictions of Miss Sloane are. She is neither an activist nor an idealist. The only thing that she truly believes in is winning everything she does. She is always ready to push all types of boundaries when it comes to winning something and she is not ashamed of anything. To sum it up, her character is something completely outside of the box.
The movie goes back and forth between present and past, trying to link different events with each other. Her media spoke person Esme Manucharian, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, shares a dark secret about her past with Elizabeth and she promises not to spread the word. However, true to her nature, Elizabeth later on reveals this secret during a television debate. This reveal of the information results with a life threatening event, which results in total chaos.
The story moves fast, keeping the attention of the viewers intact. John Madden has some pretty amazing work when it comes to direction of the movie. Every character has done justice to their role.
